Calvary's Elders

Calvary's Elders are a group of men, elected by the congregation, to be led by the Holy Spirit to seek the will of God for Calvary. They meet twice a month to devote time to prayer for our church, study of God's word, training and unity, as well as decisions on direction and business affairs.


Greg Warson

Chairman

Greg Warson was blessed to have been raised in a Christian home. In his early thirties, he began attending an Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Livonia, Michigan. It was at this time, and through the bible-based teaching of a faithful senior pastor, that he began to transform the knowledge of Christ into a personal commitment. Greg has been married to the love of his life, Peggy, for 30 years. They have attended the Boulder campus of Calvary since 2000, where Greg has served in various capacities on the Elder Board since 2006. Greg and Peggy have two sons, and one daughter-in-law. Tom, their oldest, lives in Dallas, and Tim and Haley reside in Washington, D.C. Greg works in Finance at Oracle Corporation.

Mike Taylor

Vice Chairman

Mike Taylor is from Virginia and trusted Christ when he was 17 years old, in the summer before his senior year in high school through his involvement in Young Life. He and Kathy were married in 1984 and have three children: Danny (born in 1988), Kari (1990), and Casey (1994). Mike and Kathy moved to Colorado in 1996 and began attending Calvary that same year. They were part of the core congregation from Boulder that helped to launch the campus in Erie, and still attend church at the Erie Campus. His roles on the elder board have included the nominating committee, budget team, and congregational care, as well as serving as Vice Chairman and Chairman in the past.

Tom Shirk

Senior Pastor

Tom is the Senior Pastor of Calvary Bible Church. Tom and his wife, Lucy, have been married for 33 years and have three children. Tom graduated from Moody Bible Institute in 1980, Philadelphia College of the Bible in 1984 (BS. Bible and Education), and Western Conservative Baptist Seminary in 1991 (M Div.). Tom came to Calvary in April, 1992 to serve as Associate Pastor of Christian Education and Young Adults. He has been the Senior Pastor since October 1993.

Jonathan Cawley

Jonathan accepted Christ in December 1983 and was baptized shortly thereafter. He and his wife, Susan, became members of Calvary in the early 90's. His children, Rachel and Matthew, attended youth group through their high school years before both headed out of state for college. Jonathan has served in various capacities on and off over the past 20+ years including being in Erie since the "beginning". Currently attending (with Susan) a couples life group, facilitating a men's life group, as well as participating in the greeting and Kids Quest ministries.

Steve Cutbirth

Steve made a decision for Christ a few months after hearing the gospel at a Campus Crusade meeting in 1968. He's thankful for God's direction and protection during his military years from 1968 through 1974 which included two cruises to Vietnam. He has been maried to his wife, Kari for over 30 years. Together, they attend the Boulder campus and help out with Kids Quest each week and are involved in a LifeGroup. Steve previously served two 3-year terms as an Elder at Calvary, has also worked with others to conduct a few of the church financial audits, and also helped at other service activities including Lambs Lunch and Sharefest.

Del Elliott

Del was raised in a Christian family and accepted the Lord when he was an early adolescent. He is married and has 6 children, one is already in heaven (cancer), 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Del is a professor at CU, a criminologist, and retired from teaching in 2008 but still working as a Research Professor in the Institute of Behavioral Science. He has served on the Board for 12 years prior to 2015. Del has also taught several adult classes at Calvary on parenting adolescents and classes for young married couples and empty nesters.

Chris Gross

Chris came to know Christ as a young boy, growing up in a strong Christian home. He went to Wheaton College in Illinois for undergrad, and then went on to Ohio State for his MBA after which he moved to Colorado and took a job with IBM, where he is a senior manager. He married his wife, Erin in 2005 and they have three kids, Caroline, Jonathan, and Marianne. He attends the Erie campus and has taught Sunday School, helped to lead and plan Men's retreats, Men's Fraternity, and has been involved with Men of Action and tech on Sunday mornings.

Doug Palmer

Doug is a long-time attendee of the Boulder campus and member of Calvary Bible Church. Over the years, he has been involved in many different ministries including the Board, various music ministries, and numerous committees and LifeGroups. He and his wife, Margie, will celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary in July 2015. They have three children, all married to great spouses and most importantly, six grandchildren they love to spoil!

Steve Parsons

Steve Parsons trusted Christ at the age of 19 during his freshman year of college at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting and has been attending Calvary Bible since moving to Colorado in August, 2008. His roles on the elder board include the missions and congregational care teams. He and his wife, Suzi, were married in 1999 and have two children: Amelia, born in 2006, and Asher, born in 2009. Steve is a teacher at Mead High School northeast of Longmont and splits time between teaching English and social studies as well as running the Mead High Film Club. His family attends the Boulder campus.

David Steitz

David Steitz has been attending Calvary since 1995, and the Erie campus since 2014. He trusted Christ at the age of 7, but fully dedicated his life to living for the Lord during his freshman year of college. He has been married to his wife, Jan, since 1987, and has three children: Liz (1994), Zach (1996) and Rachel (1998). He is a pediatrician at Cornerstone Pediatrics in Louisville. His passions include running, traveling, and leading mission trips to the Amazon!

Jay Swartzwelter

Jay Swartzwelter first trusted Christ at age 9 and then made a recommitment to Christ at age 33. He has been attending Calvary Bible Church since 1981 and presently serves on the missions team of the Elder Board. Jay and Diana were married in 1960 and have four children, 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Jay is a practicing dentist in Boulder, bringing his family here in 1966 after serving 2 years in the Dental Core at Lowery Air Force base in Denver. Jay and Diana attend the Boulder campus along with a large contingent of their children and grandchildren.

Mike Wagner

Mike Wagner began trusting Christ at a very young age, and began attending Calvary Bible Church around the same time he was learning to walk. As a lifetime Boulder County resident and Calvary member, Mike has served in various ministries of the church. Mike met his wife, Amber, while both were serving as volunteer staff in the High School Ministry in early 2001. Mike has served Calvary on the Elder Board since 2013, and serves on the Budget and Congregational Care teams. Mike and Amber attend the Boulder campus, along with their four children: Dawson, Caitlyn, Jackson and Loralyn; all of who are active in Kids Quest and most recently, the middle school, ministries of Calvary.
